June Round Up

A busy month for the boys at SDR started with the Maxxis 4 Clieves Hill Road Race

The month started with the Maxxis 4 Clieves Hill Road Race. A large break established early on in the race which unfortunately did not include any of the SDR riders. With about 30 miles to go Matt jumped the bunch and was joined by 2 other riders. With about 10 miles left Matt was distanced going up the hill and lost touch with the break resulting in him being caught by the bunch in the last 500m.  A bunch finish for all 3. Thanks to @maxxis4racing & @woodrow_paul for another great race.

June also saw the return of the popular Oulton Park Series

The series organised by Weaver Valley cycling club consists of 3 races each acting as individual results. The first two races were contested by Matt and Mark whilst Ben was taking his annual leave to relax and put his feet up. Matt performed consistently to finish mid bunch in all races despite numerous breakaway attempts. Mark continued his fantastic start to the season placing 5th in the 2nd race and a bunch finish in the 1st.

In the last of the 3 races Ben made his return ready to shake off the holiday beers. The evening consisted of excellent organisation as always and some great racing. Ben and Matt finished in the bunch after a strong breakaway accounted for the top 15-20 despite spending the last 3 laps in a bridging group. 6th place in the 3rd race for Mark saw Mr consistent continue his run of top 10 finishes.

Derek Davenport Memorial Road Race

June also saw the return of the Derek Davenport Memorial Road Race organised by Warrington CC. Another top 10 finish for Mark as he took 5th place overall and 1st in his category. Matt suffered a mechanical at the beginning of the final lap and crawled to the finish in the 53 x 11 just about hanging onto the bunch to lead Mark out for the Sprint.

Warrington 4up TT

3rd in the Warrington RC 25m 4up TTT on Thursday. The team consisted of Mark, Matt, Ben & guest rider Matt Langridge from @planetxbikes who we thank for joining us and for his performance. The lads rode a strong race clocking a time of 52.12 for the J2/9 25 mile course missing out on 2nd place by only 6 seconds. We also wish the lads at Wrexham Road Club our best wishes & speedy recovery. Thanks also to Ellen Isherwood for some of the fantastic photographs seen below:

Racing Chance Pimbo 3/4

A fast a furious start saw a number of attacks from all 3 riders to no avail. The race was full of attempted breaks but it became obvious that the bunch was determined to stay together with everything being shutdown quickly. In the final lap mark manoeuvred himself up the bunch and opened up the sprint ambitiously with 700m to go. Mark couldn’t quite hold on to the line with Ben finishing 7th and Mark in 10th (yes! another top 10 for him). Thanks again to Ellen Isherwood for the fantastic photos.

June ended with the Seamons Evening Road Race

All in the Top 10 with fantastic rides from Mark 3rd & Matt 7th having been away in the break since the first lap of the race. Ben took 8th after going off the front of the bunch with a mile to go. The lads rode an aggressive race as always with both Mark and Matt making the break that stuck.
